BIOGRAPHY

A/Prof Fong graduated with the top medal in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and was awarded the Gold Medal in the Master’s Examination in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (NUS). He also achieved the Board of Examiner’s Prize (Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) and a letter of commendation from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists leading to his postgraduate degrees.

In 2002, A/Prof Fong won a Fellowship programme in Minimally-Invasive Gynaecologic Surgery and was the lead-surgeon in laparoscopic surgery in NUH since 2004. Under his leadership, many firsts were achieved in the region. In 2008, he performed the first robotic surgery in NUH and the team went on to perform the first robotic surgery for gynecological cancer in the region. In 2009, A/Prof Fong was the first to perform single incision surgery in the region and then the first multidisciplinary single incision surgery in the region. In a breakthrough in 2014, A/Prof Fong led the team in transplanting ovarian tissue back into a patient with ovarian failure, which led to Asia’s first baby conceived naturally from implanted ovarian tissue.

A/Prof Fong was President of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Singapore from 2011-2013 and Chair of the Asia & Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology-Gynaecological Endoscopy Committee from 2011-2015. He became President of the 3rd Congress of Endometriosis and Uterine Disorders in 2017, and currently serves on the Board of the Asian Society of Endometriosis and Adenomyosis.

A/Prof Fong is accredited with admissions rights to Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Orchard Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, Mount Alvernia Hospital, and Thomson Medical Centre. His clinic, Astra Laparoscopic & Robotic Centre For Women and Fertility (ALRC) is also a partner of the Astra Women’s Specialists group.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr James Lee earned his medical degree at the National University of Singapore. He advanced his training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the United Kingdom. In 2004, he obtained his subspecialty training in urogynaecology and pelvic floor reconstructive surgery at the St George’s Medical School Hospital in London, under the guidance of Prof Stuart Stanton and Dr Michelle Fynes.

Dr Lee excels in managing women who suffer from disorders of the lower urinary tract and the pelvic floor. Besides urodynamic evaluation of the urogenital tract, pelvic reconstructive surgery and vaginal surgery, his other interests also include laparoscopic surgery, robot-assisted pelvic surgery, vaginal laser therapy, male and female sexual dysfunction.

Dr Lee is a member of the International Urogynaecology Association, the International Continence Society, and the International Society of Sexual Medicine. He was the past president of the Society for the Study of Andrology & Sexology, Singapore (SSASS) and continues to be an active executive committee member. Dr Lee also holds a graduate diploma in acupuncture awarded by the College of TCM Singapore and the Beijing TCM University.

Prior to setting up his private practice, Dr Lee was a consultant at the National University Hospital (NUH), where he took charge of the urogynaecological service in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology between 2005 and 2010. At the NUH he was involved in the teaching of medical students and training of junior doctors and specialist trainees in areas of general obstetrics and gynaecology, and pelvic floor medicine and surgery.

He received several Star Awards for his excellent patient care during his decade of service at the NUH. His clinical interest includes Pelvic Floor Medicine & Surgery, Urogynaecology, Vaginal Surgery, Endoscopic Surgery, Robot Assisted Pelvic Surgery, and Vaginal Laser Therapy.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr Fong Yang, an accredited Ministry of Health IVF clinician, has been practising Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the past 18 years. He received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 1990 and went on for further specialisation training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Dr Fong was admitted to the Fellow of Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2000.

He is also one of the rare few IVF clinicians who treat both male and female infertility. He was the first in Singapore to perform percutaneous sperm aspiration for men – a procedure to overcome a condition whereby sperm cannot be produced due to obstruction of the sperm ducts.

Prior to setting up his private practice in 2002, Dr Fong was a consultant at Singapore General Hospital and Changi General Hospital, where he served in the Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Andrology clinics.

Dr Fong was also active in the Centre for Assisted Reproduction in SGH and in their in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) programmes. Currently, he also performs Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI) for women as part of their fertility treatment.

Besides male and female infertility, Dr Fong also keenly manages recurrent and early pregnancy loss or miscarriages.

Dr Fong is very passionate about his field of specialisation and often shares his expertise at local and international forums. He is also an avid contributor to numerous magazines, newspapers, and makes media appearances to educate and increase awareness of male and female fertility issues.

He is effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin, and also conversant in Hokkien and Teochew.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr Cathryn Chan graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from National University of Singapore. She obtained her Membership at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists at London.

Her clinical interest is Reproductive Medicine and Infertility, which includes managing patients with ovulatory problems, PCOS, tubal blockage, endometriosis, and male infertility. She was in the IVF Team at the Centre for Assisted Reproduction, Singapore General Hospital prior to commencing her private practice in 1995.

She is an accredited IVF clinician with Parkway Fertility Centre, Thomson Fertility Centre and Sincere IVF Center. Dr Chan was the gynaecologist in charge of the first successful pregnancy using frozen oocyte and frozen testicular sperm in the year 2000 and has a credible success rate in her fertility procedures.

She underwent three years of Advanced Sub-speciality Training and was also trained in endoscopic surgery (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy) and has undergone many courses to enhance her skills. She is also an accredited colposcopist.

She had assumed positions as Member of the Gleneagles Tissue Committee and Member of the Gleneagles Medical Advisory Board (O&G Sub-section) and the Obstetrical and Gynaecology Society of Singapore. She is also an accredited colposcopist.

Dr Chan was awarded an ASEAN Scholarship, Public Service Commission Local Merit Scholarship and Young Investigator Award Singapore General Hospital Annual Scientific Meeting.

In her private practice, Dr Chan has provided expert medical services to both local and expatriate communities, foreign patients as well to International and local insurance companies. She speaks fluent Cantonese, Mandarin, Malay and Bahasa Indonesia.
