PROACTIVE EARLY SCREENING FOR BLOOD FAT DISORDERS TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES

Currently, the burden of heart disease due to atherosclerosis is increasing and tends to be younger among people of working age. In particular, dyslipidemia (blood fat) is one of the important risk factors leading to myocardial infarction, stroke, lower limb arterial disease and other dangerous cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, you should periodically screen for lipid disorders.

1. What is a lipid profile?

Basic blood lipid test kit includes 4 parameters: Total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Triglycerides.

In addition, researchers also discovered a special type of blood fat: Lipoprotein (a), also called Lp (a).

This type of blood fat has a special structure that easily forms atherosclerotic plaques in blood vessel walls, leading to narrowing or blockage of blood vessels. At the same time, the structure of Lp (a) has the effect of making it easier for blood clots to form in blood vessels.

After more than 50 years of research, there is now enough evidence to prove that increased Lp(a) is an important risk factor for atherosclerosis and is related to genetic factors. This is of great concern because there is no specific treatment for this condition, even statins (cholesterol-lowering medications) are not effective against increased Lp (a).

2. Who should be screened for lipid disorders?

According to the European Society of Atherosclerosis and the European Society of Cardiology, Lp (a) measurement is recommended for the following subjects:

  • All adults should be tested for Lp (a) at least once in their lives to identify high cardiovascular risk.
  • Lp (a) should be performed in conjunction with a regular blood lipid test to accurately assess cardiovascular risk, especially in cases where moderate or high risk is unclear.
  • In young patients, Lp (a) should be prescribed when there is a history of stroke or a family history of cardiovascular disease occurring at a young age.
  • You can consider Lp(a) testing for relatives (parents, siblings of people with high Lp (a)).
  • Consider Lp (a) testing for patients with hereditary hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, family history or personal atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease

3. What should you do if you have dyslipidemia and high Lp (a)?

The Vietnam Medical Association has warned that nearly 50% of urban people have high blood fat and it is often discovered when they accidentally go for regular health checks, blood tests, or treatment for other diseases. In many cases, only fat is recorded. high blood pressure when a stroke or cerebrovascular accident has occurred.

Therefore, you need to have regular health check-ups so that your doctor can screen you for risk, screen your heart, and perform blood fat and Lp(a) tests when you have the above risk factors. When treatment is indicated, you need to follow the cardiologist's instructions, have regular check-ups and monitoring.

At CarePlus Clinic System, a team of cardiologists conducts in-depth examination and consultation, prescribes the most necessary tests and interventions, and at the same time strictly adjusts other cardiovascular risk factors. Closely with consultation and monitoring of the Doctor:
