5 WAYS TO MAINTAIN HEALTHY LUNGS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

The lungs are responsible for supplying oxygen — the element that sustains every cell in the body. Protecting lung health means preserving energy, endurance, and overall well-being for your family. Simple daily habits can make a significant difference.

1. Keep your home clean and well-ventilated

  • Open windows regularly to improve air circulation; use an air purifier if needed

  • Prevent mold and dampness, which can trigger airway irritation

2. Stay smoke-free and avoid secondhand smoke

  • Cigarette smoke contains more than 70 carcinogenic substances

  • Secondhand smoke exposure can be just as harmful as active smoking

3. Engage in regular outdoor physical activity

  • Exercise improves lung capacity and supports more efficient breathing

  • Avoid exercising in areas with polluted air

4. Adopt a lung-healthy diet

  • Prioritize vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fatty fish, and limit processed foods

  • Include sources of omega-3 fatty acids (such as salmon and flaxseed)

  • Stay well hydrated to help thin and clear mucus in the airways

5. Undergo regular respiratory health screening

  • Especially important for smokers, those living in polluted environments, or individuals with chronic cough

  • Lung cancer screening enables early detection of disease

A healthy lung is the foundation of a fulfilling life. Instead of waiting until illness develops, you can proactively protect your health — and that of your loved ones — through early and regular respiratory screening. Detecting abnormalities at an early stage allows for more effective management and long-term peace of mind.
