7 important questions you should consider before playing sports

Congratulations on taking the very first step towards improving your health. However, before you start exercising, you need to know if your body is suitable for exercising more than usual?

Unexpected events during exercise such as fainting or, worse, heart attacks and sudden death are sporadic. Most can avoid if you know you are in a high-risk group and have a careful cardiovascular examination before exercise.

Here are seven essential screening questions before you start exercising.

1. Have you ever been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease (including high blood pressure)?

2. Do you feel pain and heaviness in your chest every time you exercise?

3. In the past month, have you experienced chest pain or heaviness even while resting?

4. Have you ever felt dizzy or lost your balance, or fainted before?

5. Do you have bone and joint problems (e.g back, hips, knees, ankles) that hurt more every time you move?

6. Are you taking medication for heart disease?

7. Did your doctor tell you to limit physical activity?

If ANY answer is YES, you must see a cardiologist before engaging in exercise!

Sudden cardiac death
