🔸 In recent years, art has evolved beyond mere appreciation it is increasingly becoming a form of “emotional nourishment” for many young people in Vietnam. From painting and crafting to creative workshops in schools, these activities are being embraced as meaningful ways to relieve stress, restore emotional balance, and reconnect with oneself. This shift highlights a powerful truth: art and mental well-being are more closely connected than we once believed.
🔸 In response to this growing interest, Vietnam Today sat down with art therapist Nguyễn Đức Như Thủy, currently practicing at CarePlus International Clinics, to explore the value and potential of this therapeutic approach.
🔸 According to Ms. Thủy, art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses images, colors, visual arts, and creative materials to help individuals process inner challenges and emotions.
🔸 What makes this approach particularly relevant in the Vietnamese context is its cultural alignment. Many people are not accustomed to expressing emotions directly; instead, they often communicate through imagery, symbols, or metaphors. Art therapy offers a safe and supportive space where these unspoken feelings can find their voice—through painting, sculpting, or even 3D creations.
🔸 Looking ahead, art therapy is considered a promising direction for the future of mental health care in Vietnam. However, for sustainable growth, the field requires more structured investment in formal training, professional standards, and accreditation systems ensuring that the community can access high-quality, trustworthy services.
