DON'T CONFUSE THE COMMON COLD WITH THE FLU!

Many people mistakenly believe that the common cold and the flu are the same because both are caused by viruses and share common symptoms such as sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, fever, and body aches. People often call the common cold the flu, but these are two different illnesses!

The common cold usually resolves on its own without specific treatment and rarely leads to severe complications. In contrast, the flu can lead to severe respiratory complications like pneumonia, multiple organ failure, and even death, posing a significant risk to the community.

Almost everyone has experienced a common cold and the flu at some point in their lives, especially children during seasonal changes. Therefore, it's important to distinguish between these illnesses to avoid confusion and take appropriate action:

COMMON COLD

  • ️Caused by a virus.
  • ️General symptoms include muscle aches, fatigue, exhaustion, headaches, and fever. Respiratory symptoms like difficulty breathing and chest pain are mild.
  • Upper respiratory symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, stuffy nose, cough, and sore throat are prominent.
  • ️The illness resolves on its own in 7 days without complications.
  • There is no specific treatment or vaccine for the common cold. Treatment focuses on improving overall condition and relieving local symptoms.

 FLU

  • ️Caused by a virus, with three main strains: A, B, and C. Strains A and B are the primary culprits.
  • ️General symptoms include muscle aches, fatigue, exhaustion, headaches, fever, and respiratory symptoms like difficulty breathing and chest pain, which are more severe.
  • ️Upper respiratory symptoms such as runny nose, stuffy nose, cough, and sore throat are milder.
  • ️The flu can lead to severe complications, potentially causing death, spreading widely, and creating community outbreaks.
  •  There are treatments and vaccines available for the flu.

Therefore, VACCINATING AGAINST THE FLU for both children and adults is essential to prevent severe flu complications.

Currently, CarePlus Clinics provide flu vaccination services for children and adults. Before vaccination, children undergo thorough health screenings and evaluations by pediatric specialists. The doctor will then provide information about the vaccine, the vaccination schedule, possible side effects, and how to care for your child at home post-vaccination.

Additionally, health information and vaccination history are stored on the CarePlus Vietnam app, allowing parents to easily access and receive reminders about upcoming vaccinations for their children.
